Florida’s Joint Action Founders Reunite to Tell Their Stories

“Reunion” preserves public power history, inspires next generation of utility leaders

ORLANDO, Fla., July 26, 2012 – Founders and early leaders of Florida’s first joint action agency reunited today to record their stories and share them with a new generation of municipal electric utility leaders.

Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) hosted the FMPA Reunion at its annual conference in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The 24 reunion participants recorded their recollections about the Agency’s formation and early challenges in videotaped interviews yesterday. The resulting footage was transformed into a video that premiered at the conference today and www.fmpa.com.

“As we gather here to discuss the future of our industry, it’s important to remember those who came before us,” said FMPA General Manager and CEO Nicholas P. Guarriello. “It’s their courage and innovation that built a new type of electric utility and forever changed Florida’s utility industry.”
