New FMPA Services Helps Customers Save Electricity
ORLANDO, Fla., March 5, 2007 – Several Florida cities have cost-effectively added energy conservation information to their Web sites by working together through the Florida Municipal Power Agency.
Fourteen cites worked together to offer free online tools and resources to help customers conserve electricity and learn how to manage their home energy use. The Internet-based resource called Energy Depot® provides valuable tools, including an online energy profile, energy calculator, energy library and more.
“The online energy audit program is an example of a common need that can be solved efficiently by working together,” said FMPA General Manager and CEO Roger Fontes. “FMPA is committed to adding new member services that meet the needs of our members.”
Participating cities include Jacksonville Beach, Bartow, Bushnell, Chattahoochee, Clewiston, Fort Meade, Green Cove Springs, Keys Energy Services, Lake Worth, Mount Dora, Newberry, Ocala, Vero Beach and Winter Park.
The rising cost of energy has increased the demand for home energy audits, and several of FMPA’s member utilities wanted to provide customers with educational resources to help conserve energy. Working together through FMPA enabled individual cities to purchase the online energy audit software in a cost-effective manner.
“The online energy audit provides valuable information to residential customers at a manageable cost to the utilities,” said Fontes.
Energy Depot is an integrated suite of online resources designed to answer energy questions. The major elements include:
- Energy Profile – The personalized energy profile helps customers understand home energy use and cost and ways to reduce energy use.
- Energy Calculator – Quickly calculate the annual energy use and cost of individual electric and natural gas home systems and appliances.
- Energy Library – Read about a range of home energy topics and review the most frequently asked questions and answers on home energy use.
- Energy Advisor – Have remaining energy questions answered via e-mail by an online energy advisor.
The information can be accessed through the Web sites of the individual utility participants.
