FMPA Wins Public Relations Award for Social Media Campaign

Award recognizes efforts of Florida’s public power utilities during coronavirus pandemic

ORLANDO, Fla., April 14, 2021 – The Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) won an Award of Distinction at the 2021 Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Orlando Area Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. The winners were announced last night during a virtual presentation to recognize outstanding public relations programs in Central Florida.

In the social media category, FMPA was recognized for its “Powering on Together” campaign, which highlighted Florida’s municipal electric utilities and their efforts to provide affordable, reliable power in the midst of COVID-19. During the pandemic, twenty-three of Florida’s public power utilities provided financial relief by reducing electric bills, saving customers approximately $63 million over several months. The utilities also provided safe, reliable operations at the power plants and in the field.

The campaign reached a total of 49,061 people across FMPA’s social media platforms. The campaign was planned and executed by FMPA’s public relations team and exceeded all goals and objectives.

The local competition recognizes companies and organizations that exhibit and employ comprehensive public relations projects that meet the highest standards of excellence in four components of public relations programming: research, planning, implementation and evaluation.
