SD-1 Risk Assessment and Job Briefings

This session is designed to highlight the importance of identifying hazards and assigning risk when performing work.

  • Identify System Hazards and Associated Risk
  • Explain the Purpose of a Job Briefing and Describe Job Briefing Requirements

SD-2 Flames and Electric Arcs

This session will highlight the importance of assessing work with potential electric arc exposures and developing effective controls for personal protection.

  • Assess workplace for hazards from flames or electric arcs
  • Describe methods to determine incident energy level
  • Describe Arc Protective Equipment Clothing Requirements
  • Communicate Care and Maintenance of Arc Protective Equipment

SD-3 Safety Performance Improvement- Human Performance Simplified

The key to improving your organization’s performance is to improve everyone’s performance. Most serious accidents and unwanted events are initiated by personal actions. This session will highlight specific processes and practices which, when implemented, can curtail risky behaviors, and manage errors.

  • Recognize the elements of error
  • Implement processes that support our safety and productivity
  • Promote leadership behaviors that optimize our performance

SD-4 Fall Protection Systems

This session will define fall protection systems and describe the appropriate use of each system.

  • Define Fall Restraint Systems, Work Positioning Systems and Fall Arrest Systems
  • Describe the Use of Fall Restraint Systems, Work Positioning Systems and Fall Arrest Systems

SD-5 Safety Drift- NOD- Normalization of Deviation

This session will define safety drift, the importance of understanding when and how it occurs and what can be done to eliminate safety drift

  • Learn methods to increase situational awareness during work planning and performance
  • Recognize factors that influence safety drift and risk tolerance
  • Learn methods to eliminate safety drift and risk tolerance as they occur

SD-6 Confined Spaces

This session will define confined spaces and will address safe entry procedures that must be maintained.

  • Define confined spaces and understand requirements for permit required confined spaces
  • Identify atmospheric and other hazards that may be present in a confined space
  • Learn safe entry methods

About the Instructor

Pam Tompkins

Pam Tompkins is President and CEO of SET Solutions, LLC. She is a 40-year veteran in the electric utility industry.  Pam worked in the utility industry for over 20 years.  She has supported utilities, contractors and other organizations operating electric power systems in designing and maintaining safety improvement methods and strategies for organizational excellence. She is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), a Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA) and an OSHA authorized instructor.

Matt Edmonds

Matt Edmonds is Vice President of SET Solutions, LLC. He is a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), a Certified Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST), a Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT) and a published author with over 15 years of safety management experience. He is also an OSHA authorized instructor for General Industry and Construction standards. Matt provides specialty safety management services for construction, general industries and electric power organizations throughout the United States.  Matt presently works with utilities and contractors to provide technical and safety specific training, safety perception surveys, site audits and assessments, Root Cause Analysis and safety process evaluation and program development.
