Utility Makes Life Brighter for Survivors of Domestic Violence

FMPA supports Help Now of Osceola, Fla., through United Way’s Days of Caring

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 1, 2012 – Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) employees helped improve the shelter and outreach center of Help Now of Osceola, a domestic violence shelter and advocacy center in Osceola County, Fla. The project was completed Sept. 28 as part of the Heart of Florida United Way’s Days of Caring, Central Florida’s largest community-wide volunteer event.

“The experience of serving our neighbors nurtures the culture of community service on which our organization was founded,” said FMPA General Manager and CEO Nicholas P. Guarriello.

This is FMPA’s fourth year partnering with Help Now of Osceola. FMPA’s projects this year included painting and drywall repairs at the shelter, organizing and decorating the outreach center, and conducting a supply drive. Employees donated a variety of household supplies to help families recovering from domestic violence.

“We’re proud to be able to lend a helping hand to an organization that brings hope and empowerment to families in need,” said Guarriello.
