FMPA Wins Excellence in Public Power Communications Award

Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) won an Award of Merit in the Excellence in Public Power Communications Awards, a national competition sponsored by the American Public Power Association. The winners were announced at the association’s annual Customer Connections Conference held this week in Minneapolis.

In the web and social media category for utilities with gross revenues of $400 million or more, FMPA received an Award of Merit for its 2022 Behind the Switch social media campaign. The campaign highlighted people working behind the scenes in the electric industry to keep power flowing to customers’ homes.

As many customers experience higher electric bills due to rising natural gas prices, they need to know how their local utility is working to manage costs. This year’s campaign showcased efforts by FMPA and its member cities to keep electricity as affordable as possible, including power plant maintenance, solar subscription programs, distribution mapping and cybersecurity. The videos were shared on FMPA’s Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn channels, reaching more than 14,000 users across the three platforms.

The national awards program recognizes public power utilities in three categories: web and social media, video, and print and digital. Other award recipients this year from Florida included Beaches Energy Services, the City of Tallahassee, Kissimmee Utility Authority and Orlando Utilities Commission.
