Award recognizes Facebook Live event highlighting the need for affordable electricity

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 9, 2017 – Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) received an award Nov. 8 in the Excellence in Public Power Communications Awards, a national competition sponsored by the American Public Power Association. The winners were announced at the association’s annual Customer Connections Conference held this week in Sacramento, Calif.

The awards honored public power electric utilities in three categories: print/digital, video and web/social media.

In the web/social media category, FMPA received an Award of Merit for the Facebook Live Event of FMPA’s Board of Directors Luncheon. During the luncheon, FMPA General Manager and CEO Jacob Williams spoke about why affordable electricity is important to customers, especially for Floridians, and discussed what FMPA is doing to keep power costs low.  The presentation also included a video with FMPA Chairman and former Newberry Mayor Bill Conrad, who talked about the benefits of his city’s membership in FMPA, and a Newberry resident who depends on low electricity rates.

Other award recipients this year include FMPA members Kissimmee Utility Authority and Lakeland Electric.
