FMPA Board Chairman Elected, 2009-2010 Officers Elected

ORLANDO, Fla., July 17, 2009 — Members of the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) elected Vince R. Ruano, City Manager of Bushnell, as Chairman of the Board of Directors for 2009-2010 at FMPA’s annual meeting held in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

This is Ruano’s first term as Chairman of FMPA’s Board of Directors. Ruano has served as a member of FMPA’s Board of Directors since 1985. Previously, he served five years as FMPA’s Vice Chairman, nine years as FMPA’s Secretary and four years as FMPA’s Assistant Secretary-Treasurer.

Paul Kalv
, Electric Utility Director for the city of Leesburg, was elected as Vice Chairman. Kalv has served on FMPA’s Board of Directors since 2007.

Kevin McCarthy, Utilities Director for the city of Clewiston, was re-elected Treasurer, a position he has held since 2006. McCarthy has served on FMPA’s Board of Directors since 2002.

Lou Hernandez, Chairman of the Utility Board of the city of Key West, was elected Secretary. Hernandez has served on FMPA’s Board of Directors since 2007.

James C. Welsh, who served as Chairman for past three years, provided strong guidance to the Agency during his tenure. Under his leadership, the Agency’s significant accomplishments include: changes to the governance and voting structure, a new strategic plan and hiring a new General Manager and CEO.
