Brightening the Holidays for Central Florida Children

FMPA employees donate gifts to grant holiday wishes

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 22, 2010 – Employees of the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) delivered three car-loads of toys, clothes, shoes and electronics to grant the holiday wishes of 75 children from the Children’s Home Society of Florida. Employees donated the gifts as part of the Agency’s 12th Annual Holiday Gift Drive.

“I’m proud of our employees that even in a tough economy they still make holiday giving a priority,” said General Manager and CEO Nick Guarriello. “With nearly 70 full-time employees, we surpassed our goal of having each staff member sponsoring at least one child.”

The Children’s Home Society of Florida is an organization that protects children at risk and strengthens families. All gifts donated will remain in the Central Florida community.

The holiday season is not the only time FMPA’s employees support charitable organizations. FMPA employees organize frequent fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for worthy causes. This year, employees raised more than $16,000 for four local charities, including Heart of Florida United Way, The Russell Home for Atypical Children, Children’s Home Society and SPCA of Central Florida.

“Because FMPA is a wholesale electric supplier for community-owned utilities and a nonprofit organization itself, our sole purpose is to provide a service that makes communities better places to live and work,” Guarriello said. “A generous, giving spirit is part of FMPA’s culture to positively impact communities.”
