FMPA Wins Excellence in Public Power Communications Award
Joint action agency receives national recognition for its annual report
ORLANDO, Fla., November 5, 2025 – Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) received an Excellence in Public Power Communications Award from the American Public Power Association (APPA). APPA announced the winners of the national competition at its annual Customer Connections Conference held this week in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In the print and digital category for utilities with gross revenues of $400 million or more, FMPA received an Award of Excellence for its 2024 annual report titled Mission Possible. The report explored how the Agency is successful in achieving its mission to provide low-cost, reliable power and, by doing so, supports its 33 Florida municipal utility Members to fulfill their own missions.
The annual report, which featured the Keys Energy Services and Lake Worth Beach Electric Utility, showcased the achievements of the Agency and the Florida public power utilities as a whole in the fiscal year 2024. Highlights included the significant reductions in costs – particularly 24 of the municipal utilities having lower average rates than the investor-owned utilities in the state – and major investments in reliability efforts. The report also touched on how these combined efforts have improved the reputation of each utility within their local communities.
Copies of the report were distributed to FMPA’s Member utilities, leaders in Member communities, state and federal government representatives, and other municipal electric utilities across the country. Copies are still available for request.
The national awards program recognizes public power utilities in three categories: web and social media, video, and print and digital. Fifty-three organizations in total received awards, and three winners were from Florida. Aside from FMPA, Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) received one award and Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) received two awards.
