FMPA Wins Two Excellence in Public Power Communications Awards
Awards recognize the joint action agency’s annual report and social media campaign
ORLANDO, Fla., October 30, 2024 – Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) won two awards at the Excellence in Public Power Communications Awards, a national competition sponsored by the American Public Power Association (APPA). The winners were announced at the APPA annual Customer Connections Conference held this week in Louisville, Kentucky.
In the print and digital category for utilities with gross revenues of $400 million or more, FMPA received an Award of Excellence for its 2023 annual report titled For the Record. The report was a reflection on the Agency’s record year, ranging from growing its membership to include all 33 Florida municipal utilities to achieving reliability milestones.
The annual report, which featured Green Cove Springs and JEA, showcased the Agency’s achievements in the fiscal year 2023. Highlights included celebrating the Agency’s 45th anniversary, announcing the Phase III expansion of the Florida Municipal Solar Project, and significant cost decreases compared to fiscal year 2022. Copies were distributed to FMPA’s Member utilities, leaders in Member communities, state and federal government representatives, and other municipal electric utilities across the country, and copies are still available.
In the web and social media category for utilities with gross revenues of $400 million or more, FMPA received an Award of Merit for its 2024 Behind the Switch social media campaign. The campaign highlighted people working behind the scenes in the electric industry to keep power flowing to customers’ homes, specifically focusing on reliable generation.
Access to low-cost, reliable power is key for quality of life, so this year’s campaign included two videos and two graphics discussing FMPA’s generation fleet. The campaign highlighted Sand Lake Energy Center and Stock Island Generating Facility, and posts were shared across FMPA’s
Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter) and LinkedIn channels, generating nearly 21,000 impressions across the three platforms.
The national awards program recognizes public power utilities in three categories: web and social media, video, and print and digital. Thirty-seven total utilities won awards, including Kissimmee Utility Authority, one of FMPA’s municipal members.
