FMPA’s Substation Training series provides courses specifically designed for substation personnel and other crews who work in and around substations.  The courses are designed to provide participants with in-depth instruction on substation-related topics and are tailored to the specific equipment of the attendee’s utilities, where possible.

 

Substation Confined Space Hazard Mitigation and Training

Overview of Session Topics:

1.      Identify substation confined spaces.

a.      Know differences between permit and non-permit confined spaces

2.      Review definitions and terms associated with substation confined spaces.

a.      Terms include but are not limited to hazardous atmospheres, lockout/tagout, ventilation, atmospheric monitoring, entry permits, training requirements, and rescue requirements.

3.      Learn requirements for entering and working safely within a substation confined space.

a.      Review equipment requirements and entry requirements.

4.      Review required rescue procedures and understand responsibilities for securing rescue.

5.      Perform a simulated permit required confined space work process.

 

About the Instructor
The course curriculum was developed by Pam Tompkins and Scott Young with SET Solutions, LLC, a consulting company that has provided training and consulting services to FMPA and several of its member utilities since 2005. Pam is President and CEO of SET Solutions and has 37 years of experience in the electric utility industry. The course will be taught by Scott Young, CUSP; a Senior Consultant for SET Solutions. Scott has more than 36 years of electrical substation experience and is a published substation safety author. He began his career as an Apprentice Substation Technician, worked through lead Substation Electrician and advanced to Substation Skills Training Supervisor. Scott works with utilities and contractors to provide electric utility technical and safety specific training, specializing in high voltage electrical technical training, OSHA compliance training and electric power safety process evaluation and program development.

 

Cost
$900 per person for each two-day session. Lunch will be provided. Please do not submit payment with registration. FMPA will send an invoice to your utility following the course.
