The position will be responsible for performing skilled work in the repair of power plant, utility, and other machinery, maintenance and repair of power generating and auxiliary equipment, and operation of equipment in a power generating plant. Lead the work of Operator/Mechanics and other personnel assigned in the complex maintenance of turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, centrifugal pumps, motors, fans, fuel systems and other equipment.
Position Requirements
- General knowledge of maintenance, startup, operation, and shutdown procedures and practices of central electric generating station steam and combustion turbine generators and auxiliary systems, methods, materials and tools used in repairing mechanical and electrical equipment, safe operating and maintenance practices and procedures of high-pressure utility boiler components including drums, headers, superheaters, reheaters, and associated valves, piping, and assemblies.
- Maintains and operates complex turbine-generator units, heat recovery steam generators, and auxiliary equipment necessary to generate load requirements. Make periodic and daily inspections of all machinery.
- Monitors, observes, and analyzes equipment and systems characteristics. Take actions required to correct or change a condition as needed. Takes readings, keeps logs and records. Performs routine periodic equipment checks and tests in accordance with standard operating practices, policies, and procedures.
- Complies with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards requirements, Southeastern Electric Reliability Council (SERC) reliability standards requirements, and all FMPA reliability standards.

Description
This is highly responsible technical, supervisory and administrative work that provides supervision and engineering support to the utility’s transmission and distribution and customer engineering functions. An incumbent is considered to be a subject matter expert and is responsible for the planning, design, construction management and operations of electric transmission and distribution and lighting facilities.

Description
This is a responsible, skilled and advanced technical position in the construction, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of protective relays, SCADA, fiber optic and related substation equipment. Also requires experience in designing and engineering new substations, modifying existing substations, CAD, preparing electrical specifications and price lists. Reports to the Relay Technician Supervisor and/or the Electric Substation Supervisor.
Position Requirements
Coordinate and assist as necessary with the on-site installation and/or modification of protective relay schemes, SCADA, Fiber Optic and related equipment. Calculate new or review existing relay settings for application to the associated protective relays.
Reads and works from detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. In the event of a system malfunction, may be called at home to respond to the situation at any hour, must assess the situation and use judgement to make appropriate repairs as quickly as possible to meet service demands. Communicates clearly and courteously to assist others.
Prepares handwritten investigation reports on equipment failures and system mis-operations. Keep accurate relay test reports and maintenance records of substation equipment. Requires manual dexterity to use desktop and laptop computer equipment in running automated relay tests.
Works with electrical engineers and contractors at the job site or in an office environment. Must possess a thorough knowledge of protective relay schemes,
their correct application / operation and limitations of each scheme.
Required to follow switching orders issued by System Control Center, requiring the operation, locking-out and tagging of Transmission and Distribution substation circuit breakers, gang-operated switches, and hook-disconnects. Must be visually and audibly alert to detect hazards. Safety equipment issued includes safety manual, hard hat, hi-voltage rubber gloves, safety glasses, earplugs, and rain gear.

Description
This is highly responsible administrative, professional and technical work involved in
planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, leading and managing all facets of a
municipal Electric Utility operations for 2,700 customers. Electric territory includes
areas outside the corporate limits. The system is comprised of one substation with
five feeder lines. This position has key responsibility for the construction,
maintenance and repair of the electrical transmission and overhead and
underground distribution systems. The City of Fort Meade is a member of the
Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) All Requirements Project (ARP) and
receives transmission power through Duke Energy.Position Requirements
Directs electric utility operations.
2. Coordinates professional engineering tasks to plan, design, estimate, and
prepare specifications for construction of various electrical overhead and
underground distribution systems.
3. Oversees all professional service and maintenance contracts.

Description
This position performs difficult professional work in the design, planning, and maintenance of an electric transmission and distribution system; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Electrical Engineering Supervisor.
Position Requirements
- Plans and designs electrical distribution and transmission systems, substations, underground services, etc.
- Performs engineering analysis of electrical transmission and distribution systems.
- Prepares work orders and detailed drawings of system construction and extensions.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and files.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and three years of experience in design and construction of electrical systems.
Special Qualifications:
A driver’s license valid in the State of Florida.

- Thorough knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of electrical transmission and distribution system design and operation.

Troubleman- Utilities Department- City of Homestead, Fla
Description
Skilled technical work involved in the repair and replacement of power, lighting, and signal systems. A Troubleman is responsible for locating the source of electric powerline disturbances or failures and replacing or repairing defective equipment and accessories.
An employee in this classification exercises independent judgment and decision-making within safety standards of powerline work. Work performance is evaluated by observation of results obtained.
Position Requirements
- Responds to requests for emergency service; locates the source of problem and repairs and/or replaces transmission and distribution powerlines and equipment, including meters.
- Tests powerlines and auxiliary equipment to identify defective voltage regulations, transformers, etc., causing disturbance.
- Climbs pole and towers to repair or replace overhead equipment.
- Opens switches to de-energize disturbed or fallen lines to facilitate repairs or to remove electrical hazards.
- Makes a determination as to when additional crew personnel will be required to complete repair work to restore power and advises dispatch of the need.
- Assists crew personnel with repair work as workload volume permits.
- Troubleshoots, installs, and repairs street light circuitry.
- May locate and correct electrical trouble in certain building circuits.
- May perform cut-off and cut-on functions of services as required.
- Will be required to set and remove electric meters as necessary.

Description
This is highly skilled journey level work in the transmission and distribution areas of the Electric & Gas Utility. Work consists of overhead and underground line work and service truck work, overseeing and directing the activities of other employees, training and instructing other employees and participating in required training programs.

Position Requirements
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent recognized certificate and completion of the Electric & Gas Utility apprenticeship program for Lineworker – Journey Level; completion of an external apprenticeship program in linework and one year of journey level work experience. Experience may be substituted for required education on a year by year bases that includes erection, maintenance and repair of overhead and/or underground electrical distribution and transmission line systems.
Individuals in these classifications are:
- Considered essential employees during emergency/storm events and must be able to work 16 hours per day for extended periods of time and may be required to be away from their family.
- Must be available to serve on-call and are subject to having to work outside of their assigned shift/schedule to meet operational needs.
- Individuals in this classification are subject to being deployed for mutual aid assignments out of town. These mutual aid assignments will require travel, extended work days and working 16 hours per day during deployment.
- Must be available to work a rotation shift that covers 7 days a week with extended hours until 10 PM in the evenings.
