Utility Lends Helping Hand to Survivors of Domestic Violence

FMPA supports Help Now of Osceola through United Way’s Day of Caring

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 29, 2014 – Employees of Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) provided helping hands for Help Now of Osceola, a domestic violence shelter and advocacy center in Osceola County, Fla. The project was completed Sept. 26 as part of the Heart of Florida United Way’s Day of Caring, Central Florida’s largest community-wide volunteer event.

“The experience of serving our neighbors supports our organization’s community-minded culture,” said FMPA General Manager and CEO Nicholas P. Guarriello. “Locally owned utilities, like FMPA and its members, are passionate about making life better in the communities we serve.”

This is FMPA’s sixth year partnering with Help Now of Osceola. FMPA’s projects this year included setting up a Pumpkin Patch in Celebration, Fla. FMPA staff unloaded 750 pumpkins and performed other tasks to prepare this fundraising event benefitting Help Now. In the afternoon, the staff went to the Help Now facility where they performed furniture maintenance, organization and routine maintenance of Help Now’s facilities.

“We’re proud to be able to lend a helping hand to an organization that brings hope and empowerment to families in need,” Guarriello said.
